Below Dam South Carolina Recreation Area is a popular park just below J. Strom Thurmond Lake Dam along the Savannah River. The park is located just off South Carolina State Highway 221 near the J. Strom Thurmond Lake Visitor Center. Below Dam South Carolina Recreation Area is a wooded day-use area for boat launching, fishing with fishing pier, hiking trail, playground and picnicking. There is no swimming at this park. .
PROXIMITY: Approx. 30 min. to Augusta, GA, and 235 feet above sea level.
ENVIRONMENT: Located on river below the dam on one of largest Corps of Engineer projects east of the Mississippi River

Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance.
Riverfront park with strong currents in river - absolutely no swimming or wading
No alcoholic beverages
Pets on leash
Park hours 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Park open Apr 1st - September 30th
A $10.00 service fee will apply if reservations are changed or cancelled
Shelter must be occupied before 2 p.m. or the reservation will be considered not fulfilled (no-show), a $20.00 service fee will be charged for no-shows.
Reservations are for the exclusive use of the shelter for the entire day.
The beach area and other park amenities are available for the reserving group as well as to the general public.
Clear the shelter and immediate area of litter upon departure.
Visitors are encouraged to wear life jackets while boating.
Swimmers are encouraged to utilize the designated swim areas and never swim alone.
There are NOdiscounts given for Golden Age Passports, Golden Access Passports and America The Beautiful Pass.
Think Water Safety! Visitors are encouraged to wear life jackets at all times while on or around the water. Swimmers should use designated swim areas and never swim alone.
