Carter Meadows Horse Group Campground and Camping

Description:
This horse camp will not accept walk-in reservations, horse camp will be available for reservations available only online and through the Recreation Department at the Salmon/Scott Ranger District in Fort Jones (530-468-1209). The Carter Meadows Horse Group Site lies at 5,800 feet elevation. It is adjacent to the Trinity Alps Wilderness and the Pacific Crest Trail. From this site, groups can ride to three trailheads that access several wilderness lakes and many miles of trails. (Note: Trips into the Trinity Alps Wilderness are restricted to a group size of 10 persons) It is available for reservations from about mid June to mid October, snow conditions permitting. The Salmon-Scott River Ranger District, 530-468-5351, should be contacted for snow and trail conditions.

Alerts and Important Information The Carter Meadows Horse Group Site is designed for a group size of 25 people with horses. It features: a general area for dispersed tent or trailer camping; gravel parking area; double accessible vault toilet; garbage pickup; scattered potable water faucets; gated entrance; several picnic tables; firering; group barbeque; hitchrack; mounting ramp and several corrals. The corrals are arranged in three sections of varying sizes: seven 11'x11' corrals; three 11'x22' corrals; and three 22'x22' corrals. There is one stock watering trough and two water faucets at the corrals, groups should bring their own hoses and watering buckets. Groups are expected to clean the corrals before they leave. Groups must bring weed free feed. Grazing is not permitted within or adjacent to the site. Stock must be held in the corrals or parking area.
