About the Campground
Nestled in the golden, chalkstone-lined valley of the Missouri River, Lewis and Clark has grown into one of the most popular recreation spots in the Great Plains.
Lewis and Clark Lake is formed behind Gavins Point Dam, which was part of the Flood Control Act of 1944, commonly called the Pick-Sloan Plan.
Cottonwood Campground, situated east of Lewis and Clark Lake, below the dam, is one of the 2 campgrounds operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District. The campground is located at the west side of Lake Yankton, a small lake below Gavins Point Dam.
Cottonwood Campground offers 75 camping sites, 45 of which are reservable. All sites have electrical hookups. Other amenities include a playground, a picnic shelter, shore fishing, shower facilities, a pay phone, and a nearby boat ramp.
