Cahaba River Fishing Report near Selma, Alabama
5/12/2013 9:40 PM
The longest free flowing river in the state, the Cahaba River offers great floating. Start close to the headwaters and just drift down, fishing all the way. Camp along the way and make a super fun trip of it. The fishing pressure will come and go depending how far or close you get to populated areas. The awesome thing about fishing here is that the fish put up a very strong fight because of all the muscle mass they put on fighting the current. A 3lbs river bass will fight as hard as a 8lbs lake bass. The downside is the fish do not grow as big in rivers as they do in lakes. While you are floating down the fish cast the rocks, fallen trees, deep holes, and weeds. Use light tackle and cast small spinners, crankbaits, jigs tipped with live bait or soft plastics, crawfish imitators and swimbaits. Fly fishing will also work. Very little will work better than drifting live bait near the bottom.
