One of the main consistent patterns for this time of year is using Zoom Trick Worms, and a few of the more productive colors are bubblegum, white and sherbert. These highly visible baits can really surprise you in how well they can produce fish, and some very good quality fish, also.

The best lures for topwater action have been XCalibur Zell Pops and Zara Spooks, both in shad patterns. The most productive areas have been around new primrose and millfoil grass growing in the backs of shallow pockets. The fish have been spawning and will keep spawning the next couple of weeks.

Bass have been hitting rattle baits in 2 to 4 feet of water on your warmer days, and the days with a little cooler weather the deeper grasslines with the water depth ranging from 4 to 8 feet deep has produced some exciting action. One of the main patterns I like this time of year is to slow down and swim jigs through lily-pad stems and also through some of the deeper Primrose grasslines.

Try jigs off roadbeds, old bridges and boat houses most of the time on the water. Also try slow-rolled Punisher spinnerbaits along the drops as well as pulling ChatterBaits over the roadbeds and grass.

Most bass are being caught right now in 3-11 feet of water and are being caught on football head jigs with trailers and D-Bomb’s from Missile Baits. Water temperatures are at 41 and climbed to 45 degrees by the end of the day.
