Fishing Tips for Lake Winnebago

The fishing has been really good lately. Try fishing with Swedish Pimples and jigging Rapalas for everything from walleyes, white bass, and perch. Finding your own quite area is your best bet. The ice is all over the place as far as thickness. When you go out be very careful. You can drive a truck out but I would stick with an ATV or snowmobile. Good luck fishing!

Fishing Tips for Lake Winnebago

In the bays people are starting to drive out (about 9 inches of ice). However the main lake is a whole different story. Most of the main lake is not even thick enough to walk on. The panfishing is good. Good luck fishing!

Ice Report for Lake Winnebago

There are people out in the bays right now ice fishing and catching a lot of fish but they are usually standing on less than 4 inches. I think 4 people have gone through this year so far (correct me if I am wrong). I recommend waiting for the colder temps that are expected next week to make the ice a sold 4 to 5 inches. If you REALLY want to go out now I recommend you find a smaller lake nearby with more ice. If you REALLY want to go out on Winnebago be super carful and remember no fish is worth dying for. Stay safe!

Fishing Tips for Lake Winnebago

Boy, have the perch ever been biting. There are times when you can't keep two rods in the water. For those of you who that interested try fishing with jigs or plain hooks (green is best) baited with live bait. When you are out there keep in mind you have to clean whatever you keep. Trust me, it’s no fun to fish all day then be up till 2am the next morning cleaning fish. Good luck fishing!

Fishing Tips for Lake Winnebago

The white bass have been AMAZING the past few days. There are thousands in the shallows bulking up for the winter. Once you get into a school bites are almost immediate. FISH SHINEY BAITS. The walleye bite is also good just not as good. Try fishing the reefs with jigs, soft plastics, crank baits, and live bait. Good luck fishing!

Fishing Tips

My last report is still valid but more walleye are being caught shallow. Good luck fishing

Fishing Tips for Lake Winnebago

The perch and walleye are HOT right now. Walleye: Try trolling the mud flats with cranks and spinners. If that doesn’t work you should try jigging the reefs with leaches or casting cranks near the perch schools. Perch: There are tons of perch being caught on jigs and green hooks that have worms or leaches on them. Try drifting the west shore anywhere from 13.5-5 feet of water; when you find them anchor. It should be almost nonstop action. Good luck fishing!

Fishing Tips for Lake Winnebago

The perch and walleye bite is AMAZING right now with both huge numbers and nice size being caught. The perch are not as big as some years but there are tons of them. If you are after walleyes try the mud flats with crank baits, crawler harasses, and Zip lures. If you’re after perch try fishing a small green hook with a piece of worm on it and a split shot about a foot up the line. Make sure you are fishing on or near the bottom. You should drift fish until you find them then try anchoring. Following the crowds is another way to find them. Good luck fishing!

about the same

The fishing is about the same since my last post with a few exceptions. 1. Most of the white bass are back and people are trolling until they catch one they then throw out an anchor. 2. You can still catch walleyes on the reefs but more and more fish are moving out to the mud flats where they can be caught trolling. Good luck fishing!

walleyes, perch and white bass

The fish have been liking the warmer weather almost as much as the humans judging by the numbers of fish caught since the weather got warmer. If you are after walleyes and peach try fishing the reefs with jigs, crank baits, and live bait. If you are after white bass you will not find that many in the lake since most of them are up the rivers. But you might catch a few near the river mouths, though. Use jigs, spinners, and crank baits. Good luck fishing!

The walleyes are biting! The walleyes that are being caught are almost equally split between the in or near the river and near the main lake reefs. In the river try using spinner rigs, jigs, and crank bait fished slow. On the reefs try fishing jigs, crank baits, and spinners also but fish them a tiny bit faster. Good luck fishing!

Fishing Lake Winnebago

The panfish are still biting well but 90 percent of the fish being caught are small. Try fishing small bay and coves. If you can find one with a feeder creek flowing into it you are almost certain to catch fish. If you are after walleyes most of them are still up the river spawning. There are a few that are near the river mouth though. You can also catch the fish that stay in the lake by fishing the reefs. Use small jigs, small crank baits, and live bait for panfish. Try jigs, normal size crank baits, and live bait for walleyes, you can troll if you want. Good luck fishing!

fairly good

The fishing has been fairly good lately. Panfisher men are catching the panfish in the small bays, like Asylum bay. The walleye fisher men have been catching walleyes around the river mouth and on the main lake reefs. Try live bait, jigs, and crank bites. Good luck fishing!

Fishing in spring

Lake Winnebago is one of the best lakes in the state to go fishing! For walleyes in the spring I would try fishing the river mouth or the main lake reefs. Baits I would use for walleye are crank baits and jig and worm combos. For panfish and bass I would try the backwaters with worms, minnows, and leeches. Good luck fishing!
