Head downriver and fish for bass that are hungry and have returned to the deep river bluffs, river channels and mouths of pockets. Use a jig ’n pig in the mouths of pockets, a finesse worm on the deep river bluffs, and a hammered 1/2-oz. Hopkins jigging spoon in the river channels.

Bass were shallow and moving up. There have been good topwater bites on days with cloud cover. Spotted bass are being caught in mouths of creeks and on points with finesse worms. Good spots are also being caught around piers that are near deep-water drop-offs.
Summer on Logan Martin
5/17/2012 7:00 AM
Hundreds of boat converge on Logan Martin in the summer, for recreation and fishing. You need to escape these large crowds and go to where the fish are. Sometimes the only way to do this is to fish at night or very early. If you can get out on the water just before sunrise you can get in about 3 or 4 hours of fishing without the large crowds. The spotted bass population is huge here. Small lure rigged with a jig head are best for the spotted bass. Test out a few different colors until you find the right one for that particular time of day. Finesse worms and crawfish imitations are the best big spotted bass producers. If you can find a good ledge or drop off during mid day, small crankbaits work great for bigger spotted bass. If spinner baits are your thing, then try odd colors. Black and white or yellow and black would be great because so many fisherman use the normal white or chartreuse on this lake. Topwater lures like spooks and frogs draw explosive strikes at day break. There are guide services that will take you out for a full day of fishing also if you don't have a boat. Good luck!
