5 Fishing Reports for Sardis Lake - Sardis, Mississippi

9/16/2013 7:00 AM

Fishing

Crankbaits in various colors, jigs and/or minnows are all producing crappie, but minnows are picking up more incidental catfish. Best bite is early in the morning before it gets too hot. Head for the river and creeks if we get any rainfall runoff. For largemouth bass, fish main lake points with crankbaits or Carolina rigged soft plastics. Cover (brush tops, etc.) is a plus. White bass are feeding on shad in the evenings off main lake points; schools are small and scattered, but some fish are 2 – 3 lbs. Fish small, shad-imitating lures like jigs under a popping cork, small crankbaits, or tailspinner lures.

4/21/2013 7:00 AM

Fishing

Catfish have been biting natural baits fished in the river and creeks with all the fresh water coming in. White bass can also be caught on shad-imitating small crankbaits and jigs.

2/25/2013 7:00 AM

Crappie

For crappie, bank fish jigs and/or minnows 4 – 5 ft deep under a bobber in eddies or near the rocks. Folks have been trolling for crappie in the Lower Lake with fair success.

12/16/2012 7:00 AM

Fish

Winter crappie fishing can be good drifting or trolling jigs and/or minnows around the dam, marina, or main lake or jigging in cover. White bass usually stack up around Engineer’s Point and off the dam in front of the spillway gates where jigs or small crankbaits work best. White bass and catfish are also good in the river in the upper end of the lake.

Crappie on Sardis

Trolling for crappie is the way to go right now. Stay in the 10-25 foot range and vary your speed. If your not into trolling you can still catch them jigging in the timber from Holiday lodge on up the lake in about 10 feet of water.
