The spinnerbait bite is really on fire right now as well. The Revenge with double willowleaf blades is working best, as the largemouths and spotted bass are feeding heavy on schools of shad.

A shaky head paired with a Reins Swamp Mover worm on points is also working well right now. The grass pattern is starting to pick up as well. Try to slow-roll a Revenge buzzbait along the edges of the grass and cover lots of water. Later this month, look for both spots and largemouth bass to be moving to the ledges.

Bass

Throwing a Ima Shaker or Rockin Vibe crankbait to secondary points has been the pattern of choice for these staging fish. Windy days will group the baitfish up and cause these prespawn fish to feed very aggressively. A jerkbait like the Ima Flit ripped through these areas has been catching some big fish.

Flip a Revenge jig in black and red with the same color trailer is the bait of choice, and most fish are around the shallow sides of the docks, and look for any wood structure.

Bass

Most bass have moved to a deeper winter pattern in the main lake. Carolina-rigged plastics and drop shots are working well. The bass in the upper Coosa River, from Riverside Campground up into Georgia, are out on the main river channel 4 to 8 feet deep on the log jams. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, Texas-rigged worms and jigs are all producing some great bass.

Bass on Weiss

  10/18/2012 7:00 AM

The fish on Weiss are in the fall transition mode right now, and the bass are grouped up and feeding heavily. Revenge buzzbaits are still working well around docks early. The spinnerbait bite is really on fire right now as well. The Revenge with double willowleaf blades is working best, as the largemouths and spotted bass are feeding heavy on schools of shad.

Bass and crappie on Weiss

  6/29/2012 7:00 AM

Bass can be found on ledges in 6-12 feet of water. A jig drug along the ledges are producing many large bass. In the river above Cobia bridge is loaded with shad and the spotted bass are eating them up. Spinner baits and crankbaits are catching these feeding spotted bass. Also a carolina rigged senko is catching the spotted bass, fish it near the schools of shad. The crappie are in creek channels in 12-15 feet of water on stumps and trees. Spider rigs with live minnows catch the deep ones. At night look for lights on docks to find crappie. Live minnows and jigs work well at night also.
