Located on the east side of Hwy. 1 with the Pacific Ocean on the west side of Hwy. 1., this campground has a park like setting under a scattered canopy of mature Monterey Pines and Monterey Cypress. All sites have grass in them and there is plenty of room for activities. The campground elevation is aprox. 100 above sea level in the Los Padres National Forest. Beach access is within a short walk to Sand Dollar Beach, the largest sandy beach in the Big Sur area. It is a very popular spot for surfing, fishing (fishing permits are required for those over 16), swimming, exploring, sunbathing, etc. The beach is dog friendly as long as they are on a leash and they are cleaned up after. There are also many trails that can be accessed from the Sand Dollar Beach facility which lead to exploration of the bluffs overlooking the beach and other coves and beaches in the area. Within a short drive many trails can be accessed for hiking, backpacking, bicycling, hunting and horseback riding. These trails offer a variety of experiences including water falls, groves of Redwood Trees, breathtaking views, meadows and streams. Bring plenty of water and familiarize yourself with Poison Oak as there is abundance in the area but is easily identifiable. Plaskett Creek has 44 sites each with a parking pad, picnic table, fire ring and pedestal barbeque. There are water spigots located throughout the campground, but there is no water, sewer or electrical hookups. The sites can be used for tenting or RVers. There is no dump station. All roads are paved and there are flush toilets and sinks in the restrooms. There are 3 group sites at Plaskett Creek that can be reserved and will accommodate 40 people each and 10 vehicles. All extra vehicles above 10 are $5.00 each to be paid on arrival and assuming they can safely fit into the designated parking area. This area has vault toilets, water spigots, fire rings, barbeques and picnic tables. The temperature is mild year round with the average temperature in the winter being 64 degrees. October-May is a great time to visit whether you are tenting or RVing and offers less crowds and whale sightings as this is their migration period. Forest Service is enforcing the 2 car per site maximum at the campground.
The campsite must be occupied the first night and each subsequent night of the reserved period. If the site is not occupied by 7 a.m. the following morning the reservation is cancelled. The holder of the reservation will be charged a two day minimum or the total amount paid for the site, whichever is greater. No Refunds will be given due to weather or road conditions. Refunds will not be provided if cancellations are not made 24 hours in advance of reservation.
