About the Campground

This site lies within the mixed conifer area of the Pinaleno Mountains at an elevation of 9,000 ft., along Swift Trail (AZ366). This picturesque mountain meadow setting with a long and colorful history serves as a place where forest visitors can come and reap the gold of a summer sunset or enjoy the silver flash of a white-tailed deer bounding into the trees. It also provides an excellent escape from the summer desert heat. The meadow provides opportunities to view wildlife, wildflowers, and for group activities. Popular activities include hiking, camping, mountain biking, and picnicking. The Mount Graham Wilderness Study Area is nearby. Facilities include a group fire ring/grill, drinking water spigot nearby, and a parking area. No parking is allowed in the meadow. Firewood may be collected in and around the campsite. Water is seasonally available June 1 through September 30. Open season is April 15th through November (weather and fire conditions permitting). Please call 928-428-4150 for more information. Treasure Park is so named because legend has it a treasure of precious metals was once buried there. The story is told that, in the 1850's, a band of outlaws stole a large amount of gold and silver from mines in Mexico then loaded their booty onto burros and fled into Arizona. The banditos reportedly buried their ill-gotten gain in this high mountain meadow in a spot which they marked with a triangle formed by three colored granite stones. Though the story of buried gold has been relegated to the status of myth, a number of depression-era Americans did find their reward in Treasure Park in the 1930's. That's when this area became the site of the first Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp in Arizona.

Alerts and Important Information "There are currently no camping fees charged for this facility, only a Reservation Service Fee is charged (which is non-refundable). Customers are permitted to cancel without incurring any additional charges." Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance. Total vehicle length should be less than 40 feet. SH366 is steep with a high number of switchbacks and a one-lane curved bridge at Wet Canyon. No RV hookups. Pets must be on leash. Only downed trees and shrubs may be collected as firewood. Quiet hours are between 10pm and 6am. Nearest medical facilities are in Safford, 23 miles. Be Bear Aware. Make sure all food and trash is secured during stay. Pack-it-in, Pack-it-out. No trash cans are available. Please plan to remove trash from the Forest prior to leaving the campsite. Additional supplies are at the base of the mountain near the junction of AZ191 & AZ366. Be sure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving. DO NOT LEAVE FIRES UNATTENDED. You are responsible for keeping fires under control. 14-day stay limit. Check-in 2 pm Check-out noon.
