About the Campground

Just up the Magpie drainage from Canyon Ferry Road, Bar Gulch cabin offers a retreat from the fast pace lifestye. It is a small, one room cabin with a skylight, 2 bunk beds and a full-sized bed. Only five miles ffrom Canyon Ferry Lake, it provides an excellent base camp for boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, and more. Helena is the largest city in the area; it is approximately 24 miles away. It offers all services. There are local businesses within driving vicinity of the cabin; marinas, restaurants, convenience stores and watering holes. This cabin offers some primitive and rustic charms; a skylight, a hand pump, a small antique cook stove, and wood heat. Access to the cabin is good and does not usually require a 4-wheel drive vehicle but the Forest Service does not provide snow removal to the cabin.

Alerts and Important Information Facility does not accept walk-in or reservations thru the District Office. 1 day minimum window. 180 day maximum window. 5 nights maximum. Rental fee is $25/night plus reservation fee. Access is by gravel road. It is not plowed for snow. Please be prepared. This cabin is "Pack-it in, Pack-it out" All food and garbage should be removed. Keep open fires within the fire ring. Fireworks are prohibited on all public lands administered by the National Forest Service. Amenities such as lanterns, firewood, cooking utensils, and dishes are provided but not guaranteed. For current information, questions, or concerns regarding weather, road conditions, fire restrictions, or local events please call the Townsend Ranger Disctrict (406)-266-3425.
