Winter travelers need to be able to evaluate avalanche and over-ice travel hazards. Closed to motorized vehicles YEAR-ROUND. Closed to horse/pack stock from 4/1 to 6/30. Three consecutive days maximum per person 5/15 through 8/31. No commercial use. The person holding the reservation must be 18. Treat or boil water before consumption. This is a high bear concentration area. Located 3.3 miles from the Russian River Campground Trailhead, this log cabin is in a fairly flat area overlooking the Lower Russian Lake. It is near the treeline at an elevation of 400 feet with scattered trees, shrubs, and brush. The cabin sleeps 4 comfortably, maximum group size is 8. The cabin has wooden bunks, table, benches, and a woodstove for heat. An outhouse, splitting maul, saw, and rowboat with oars are also provided. There is no electricity, potable water, mattresses, bedding, cooking utensils, or cut firewood. Cabin users should bring sleeping bags and pads, cookstove, cooking gear, and food. Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

Alerts and Important Information
Please be aware that there will be on-going road work occuring on the Snug Harbor Road during the summer of 2010. Traffic delays may be encountered.
This cabin will be closed for maintenance from 05/04/2010 through 05/06/2010, 05/11/2010 through 05/13/2010, and 05/18/2010 through 05/20/2010.
Access to Barber Cabin and the Forest Service Lands around Lower Russian Lake have been closed to the use of Snowmachines. For additional information call the Seward Ranger District at (907)224-3374. Reservations can be made the day of arrival or up to 180 days in advance.
If you cancel a cabin reservation within 14 days of your scheduled arrival date, you will be charged the $10.00 service fee and forfeit the first night's recreation use fee. No-shows, Early Departures, or Cancellations after the scheduled arrival date, are not entitled to a refund. Cancellations for single night use for Alaska cabins will not be assessed a service fee.
All garbage and food must be packed out.
Occasional poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared. Remember this is a bear area! Treat or boil water before consumption.
