PROXIMITY: Approx. 30 min. to Augusta, GA. Located 235 feet above sea level, on river below the dam on one of largest Corps of Engineer projects east of the Mississippi River WEATHER: Hot, humid summers, mild, pleasant winters ATTRIBUTES: On Savannah River shoreline with excellent fishing and boating, easy access to major cities, Augusta, GA, approx. 30 min., Atlanta, GA, approx 2.5 hrs., Columbia, SC approx. 2 hrs. ACTIVITIES: Some of the best fishing, hunting and water sports in these United States, Masters Golf Tournament first week in April, museums, art galleries in all major cities, excellent zoos in Columbia, SC and Atlanta, G FEES: Site Name Fees Group Shelter $75.0 Big Hart Recreation Area is one of the most popular parks on J. Strom Thurmond Lake. The park is located off Georgia State Highway 78 between Washington, Georgia and Thomson, Georgia. Big Hart Recreation Area has both a campground and a wooded day-use area for boat launching with a courtesy dock, fishing, swimming, playground and picnicking.

Alerts and Important Information Reservations must be made at least 2 days in advance. Day use area only, NO CAMPING Park is open from 1 April to 30 September.Park hours 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Pets on leash (no pets near swim area or playground) No alcoholic beverages Title 36, Rules and Regulations will be enforced. Clear the shelter and immediate area of litter upon departure. There are NO discounts given for Golden Age Passports, Golden Access Passports and America The Beautiful Pass. Think Water Safety! Visitors are encouraged to wear life jackets at all times while on or around the water. Swimmers should use designated swim areas and never swim alone. Please make sure that you have your confirmation letter in hand for each and every reservation when checking into the recreation area. THIS IS THE DAY USE SHELTER. NO OVERNIGHT CAMPING.
