About the Campground

Cherry Glen Campground is located on the 26,000 acre Saylorville Lake project, which stretches for over 50 miles up the Des Moines River Valley. Cherry Glen, our oldest and most popular campground, has 125 sites nestled together on a compact 13-acre wooded ridge. Visiting with family and friends while relaxing in the shade of one of the campground's many trees is a popular pastime. For the more adventuresome, the adjacent boatramp makes it easy to go from camping to boating on the 6000 acre lake in just minutes. A wide variety of activities and facilities are available within the campground, including interpretive programs, group picnic shelters, playgrounds, baseball diamond and volleyball standards, boat launching, sailing, skiing, wind surfing, and fishing. The 24-mile paved multi-purpose Neal Smith Trail runs from Des Moines to Big Creek State Park, and connects the campground to all recreation areas on the east side of the lake. It is designated as a National Recreation Trail (no motor vehicles allowed) and is used for biking, hiking, jogging, walking, and in-line skating. Nearby activities include a visitor center, nature trail, swimming, frisbee disc golf course, accessible fishing pier, river fishing, and hunting For more information, please visit our website at www.SaylorvilleLake.org
