About the Campground

Only 26 sites in the Cosby campground are available by reservation -- the remaining sites are available only on a first come, first served (FCFS) basis. Except on holiday weekends, there are usually many sites available. The 157-site Cosby Campground is located in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and approximately 5 miles south of Cosby, Tennessee. Campsites include a fire ring with cooking grill and a picnic table; tent sites include a tent pad. Reasonable generator use is allowed. Loop A is generally open mid-March through October; Loop B is generally open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend plus October. This is a nice campground, showing great improvements since 2009, that tends to be underutilized due to its distance from tourist attractions in the Gatlinburg area. If you're looking for a peaceful place to camp in the park, this is a great option, especially when the more popular campgrounds fill up on holiday weekends. There are great hiking and fishing opportunities in the area. NOTICE: Campsites were renumbered in November of 2009. If you like to reserve a specific site, please know that it may now bear a new number. Please check the map or check the conversion list on the Park website under the Frontcountry Camping page. If you have questions, call 423-487-2683. Convenience stores and fuel are available in Cosby; medical facilites are 19 miles away in Newport. MORE INFORMATION: Information is available at the park website at www.nps.gov/grsm. For recorded information on park facilities, programs, local lodging and to request information by mail, call 865-436-1200. Books and guides are available on-line at www.smokiesstore.org. The park mailing address is Great Smoky Mountains National Park, 107 Park Headquarters Road, Gatlinburg, TN 37738.
