About the Campground

Click here for more cabin information and maps. This unique cabin is a refurbished railroad caboose. Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, oil stove for heat and an outside toilet. It does not have mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, cooking gear and food. Oil sotve uses #1 stove oil (#1 diesel) or kerosene to be supplied by user. For list of stove oil suppliers for the (Juneau and Skagway area) call (907) 586-8800. Fuel consumption is approximately 1 gal/day with stove on low setting. Environment: East fork of Skagway River drainage, surrounded by rugged mountains, spruce forest with black bear and mountain goats. The person holding the reservation must be 18, and must be a member of the party using the cabin. Use of this cabin by a commercial operator, such as an outfitter or guide, is NOT allowed. There are NO discounts for Golden Age or Golden Access Passports for Alaska cabin rentals. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30. Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

Alerts and Important Information You may reserve this cabin on the day of arrival, or up to 180 days in advance. Hiking and train access only. Stream water must be boiled or treated before drinking. Train transportation must be arranged in advance by calling (800)343-7373. Open fires must be in fire ring. Collect dead/down wood only. All garbage and food must be packed out.
