Apache Lake near Apache Junction, Arizona
Apache Lake is best fished in spring and fall. Winter is a close third. You will probably be better off fishing in your bathtub during the summer. You can find lots of good shoreline fishing here because of the irregular shoreline. The best places to fish here are deep coves, extended points, and rocky cliffs. All the rocks found here make perfect places for crayfish. Coincidentally the crayfish population here is huge. Because of that the best lures or baits you can use are crayfish colored. The fishing in the lake used to be much better. In fact the smallmouth here used to be the best fishery in all of Arizona. Then golden algae came and wiped out the fish though. The lake is on the upswing but it’s not the best yet. Hopefully in a few years the lake will be returned to its former glory. Tight Lines!
