Bass can be caught right now on shallow crankbaits and jerk baits right now in the pre-spawn as the bass are headed shallow to stock up for the spawn. Catfish can be caught on live and cut shad fished near shallow and deep cover. Crappie can be caught on minnows near brush piles and fallen trees.

Fishing Bankhead Lake would not be complete without fishing some log jams on the main river. There are plenty of choices lakewide. Look for isolated logs, laying trees, or small log jams with only a few logs or entangled trees. These are better than fishing a whole one mile stretch of logs.

Bass in Bankhead

Bass here in the 16 inch range are abundant, but you wont find too many large bass. The back water areas have the potential for trophy fish though. Spotted bass can be found more toward the lower parts of the reservoir. Small lure like worms on jigheads and small lizards work great for the spots.
