Winter kill 2014

on August 9th

As of June 5 2014 Big OK/Island had a pretty severe winter kill. I observed many large rainbows dead on the bottom. The shrimp were extremely thick leading to believe there wasn't anything feeding on them to control their population. Didn't even get a bite. Too bad.

Big Ok Lake

The fishing in Big Ok Lake is definitely O.K. Rainbows are stocked and average about 3 lbs. An 8 lb rainbow is not all that uncommon thanks to the lake's massive forage base of bugs and freshwater shrimp. Fly Fishing only, all other techniques are banned. Spring and fall are when most of the huge trout are caught.
