Bon Secour River

The fishing on the Bon Secour is HOT! During the spring, summer and fall expect good fishing for speck trout and redfish. Flounders run in schools and can be found here almost year round. In early winter, the sheepshead bite so hard and fast your arm will ache from holding up your stringer after a day of fishing. There are also many others species that can be found here at one time or another. Finding structure is no problem here, in fact structure finding you or your lure is a bigger problems. The bottom of the river is thickly littered with tons of debris that can steal your lure, eat your lower unit, and provide a perfect place to live for a big old fish. The easiest way to fish is by still fishing or jigging. Some people cast, but they lose tons of lures. If you want to cast, stick to boat docks and other structure close to shore you can't jig. Be sure to use heavy tackle so you can wrestle the fish out of the cover. Soft plastics and jigs are the most popular artificiales here, but live shrimp fished a small (#4) kahle hook and a quarter ounce sinker about a foot above the hook will outfish artificials every day. Be aware, most of the shoreline is private so you are going to want to bring a boat.
