Fishing Tips for Canyon Lake

How many of you like bass? How many of you like big bass? How many of you like REALLY big bass? If you answered yes to any of these questions I recommend you check out Canyon Lake sometime as the bass fishing is some of the best in all of Arizona. There are also lots of trout stocked from November through March. As if that's not good enough all of the other species found here provide good fishing. If that interests you enough that you want to fish here you might want to pay attention because I have a few tips for might find useful. First off the lake's forage base is mostly shad and crayfish. Therefor lures colored like those two things do well. The steep, rocky sides of the narrow portion are really hard to fish but that's where all of the big bass and walleye hang out. The usual lures and flies will work in the colors mentioned above. In winter the priorities shift to trout. Try fishing near the launch ramp and the Boulder Recreation Area. Anglers fishing for trout also can catch lots of yellow bass while they are out. Again the usual baits work. If you still want to fish for bass in the winter try fishing with big trout colored swimbaits. If you are looking for catfish the best way to catch them with stink bait fished on the bottom after dark from spring through fall. Tight Lines!
