The Chutes feed directly into the falls themselves so stay well away from the chopped rapids. Up the chutes a few KM from the falls there is a great pike, muskie and bass fishing. There is a kids tournament each year which raises money for local charities. Back to the fishing! The use of certain lines is key around the muskie here. Try fluorocarbon, with clear water, these lines don't flex to much either which is great for strong hits. Use a soft tipped rod as a hard tip will have the muskie feel the hit and let go immediately. Baits in this area would be salmon eggs, as salmon swim these rivers as well. Cluster egg baits, real egg baits or imitation egg scents work. Head for some moving water and troll up river. It will be tough to distinguish a hit between a current catching your bait, keep an eye on your rod tip and watch for large dips in the rod. Run 2 rods at a time, different depths and different lengths. You can stay close to shorelines or run mid river, the muskie move around their territory at all depths. Be prepared to fish all day as the muskie will spend days digesting a recent meal. There are salmon in the area as well and you can expect a heavy fight. Use a 40lb test line and some local fly baits. The locals around Niagara mention the biggest secret to the salmon around here is boat position during your "drift". A sideways drift will have your bait flowing in a different manner than a float direct down river, ask around and see who is having what luck that day.
Species Caught: Muskie
