Clear Lake near Lucerne, California
At 43,000 acres Clear Lake is the biggest natural lakes in CA. You would expect the fishing to be good in such a big lake and you would be right. The fishery is made up of really nice largemouth bass that top out at about 17lbs, nice catfish, good panfish (especially crappies), and tons of $#%! (opps I meant carp). If you are interested in fishing Clear Lake from a boat you are in luck; there are no less than 11 public boat ramps along the lake. That’s not even including all the marinas that are also willing to rent you a boat. If you are interested there are resorts and RV and tent camping facilities available around the lake for you to use. Also you can water/jet ski here if you want. The best fishing tips I have for you are that the “Tule’s” are one of the best spots in the lake for bass. Other good bass spots include wood, points, and weed lines. The best bass baits (say that 5 times fast) are spinners, jerk baits, swim baits, soft plastics, and crank baits. For catfish all you have to do is fish the shorelines after dark with live fish, dead fish, worms, and any other rotten meat you can find. The crappies are famous for their spring spawn when you should be fishing shallow wood and rocks with small jigs, live bait, small spinners, and small crank baits. The other panfish can be found shallow just about year round (except in the heart of summer when the big ones suspend deep) biting live bait. Good luck fishing!
