Big Crappie

on May 31st

My family and I went fishing today at Cold Springs Res and I caught the crappie pictured below. Thought I had some weeds turns out it wasn't. I used a red and bright yellow gig. It was my first cast out. It was about 1:30pm. Great day.

Cold Springs Reservoir

on April 21st

The problem with Cold Springs Reservoir is not the fishery. To the contrary, fishing in Cold Springs is fantastic for amazing crappies that are abundant in the 14-16 inch range, bullheads to 18 inches, a few largemouth bass that top out at almost 9lbs, yellow perch, and huge carp. The problem with Cold Springs is access. The boat ramp is closed due to safety issues, you can't fish from the dam, and the shores are thick with trees and brush. The ODFW is working on trying to improve access, but no word on progress yet. You might want to call the ODFW in Pendleton for updates. if you can find a spot to access the lake, I highly recommend bringing a float tube. Good luck!
