Eagle Lake near Maple Grove, Minnesota
Eagle lake has had its share of problems in the past and the DNR has monkeyed around with different concepts to return it to some kind of decent fishery. After doing there best at getting the Muskie to take it seems as though they have arrived at success with a really good Walleye population and some very good sizes at that. 16 to 20 inch fish are becoming the standard and glow jigs are doing a good job at achieving this. Thirty to thirty five feet of water, straight out from the access is where the hits are coming from, including the northeast side. Muskies are in here and mid summer through fall is best with big buck-tail spinners. Populations of yellow and black Bullheads used to be quite high and they have somehow mysteriously disappeared....Cause? Quite possibly Catfish, which is the only predator of these two fish, no one is really sure yet, maybe somebody reading this can fish for the Cats and gives us the definitive answer.
