Skamania Steelhead Abound

on August 14th

I've been fishing Trail Creek for weeks. There are hundreds of 7-15 pound steelhead in the creek. Best baits have been spawn sacs, nightcrawlers, and small shrimp. Best lures are small spinners and flies, especially in orange or black colors. These fish are tough to get to bite, stay away from the shoreline, if they see you, it's over. Drifting baits 1-2 feet under the surface works well for me. Cast upstream and let the current carry the bait to them. Use very heavy lime, some of these fish are well over 14-15 pounds, they run like crazy, jump, shake, and like to go under logs. Set your drag, and be prepared for the fight of your life.
