Fishing

on September 15th

The river levels have been going up and down due to recent rains, and anglers should take note of the current conditions before heading out to the river. When the river is high, good fish were being caught in oxbows and sloughs, such as Williams Lake. Black and blue jigs, soft-plastic lizards, and shallow running crankbaits have caught fish up to 3 pounds.

Catfish

on March 19th

Channel catfish reportedly have been stacking up in deep holes with water more than 30 feet deep. Fishing should continue to get better as the water temperatures continue to increase. Catfish move into these areas of deep water because it is less affected by the temperature change. Anglers should use earthworms or minnows fished on the bottom.

Bass

on January 15th

Texas-rigged blue fleck lizards have also been catching fish. In the upper river, crayfish make up a large proportion of the food of bass and consequently make good bass bait. Crayfish can be collected with a dip net from ditches and sloughs along the river and its floodplain swamp. Crayfish-imitating crankbaits and Zoom speed craws also work well when live bait is not available.

Striped Bass, Record Breaking Cats

on July 31st

This 92 mile river is full of excellent fishing opportunities. Easily reachable by anglers, it contains 85 native species of freshwater fish. The upper end of the river is where you'll find bigger sport fish, game fish, crappie, and bass. Blue catfish and flathead catfish come in reputable sizes and some record breakers have been caught in this river. (More than 60 pounds for blue catfish.) Striped bass are the catch of the season during the hot summer months. Happy fishing!
