Good fishing based on wind
by Tight Lines
on July 21st
I've realized people come fish for all types of fish on Government Cove. The wind usually picks up in the afternoon and when it comes strong off of the Columbia from the west it can kill the fishing on west side of island. Best to stick close to rocks on east shore and look out for weeds close in.

To catch bass and panfish post spawn follow the fishes movement off of spawning beds into slightly deeper water. Use lures such as streamers, jigs and flutter or inline spoons. Into summer adjust your fishing location and style as conditions (water temp, light intensity, bait location, etc) change. Use presentations such as mid weight or floating jigs, spin jigs, streamers, spoons, spinners, crankbaits and a bait and hook. Into fall use similar tactics. To catch bullhead follow the fishes movement throughout the year and use presentations like a worm on the bottom, crankbaits dragged, and spoons worked slowly on the bottom. Finally to catch sturgeon that may wander into the cove to feed during summer and fall use any popular bait rig or large lures worked slowly. Enjoy fishing.
