Hothouse Creek near McCaysville, Georgia
My family has lived on the upper section of Hothouse Creek (GA/NC line) my entire life. Ive heard stories of monster-sized rainbow and browns, as well as the occasional brookie being hauled out of there, along with several other species of fish. In the mid-90's I saw a large trout, nearly the lenth of my arm. Fish were huge, and plentiful. Several people I know can attest to catching some nice fish. BUT.. That is no longer the case. Ive yet to catch even a danged horny head out of the upper creek in years. Spent several hours hoping to catch something the other day- didnt even SEE ANY fish. The last time I caught any trout out of hothouse was at the local spot referred to as "the Baptising Hole" where DNR stocks it for the summer months.. Very disappointing. They USED to stock the upper portion near the junction of Hothouse Rd. and Johnsonville. I heard they havent stocked there in 20 yrs or better, not sure if this is true but id say it is, the fish population in the upper area is nothing like it used to be.
