on January 19th

Came over from SC to fish Hartwell and Clarks Hill Lake (aka. Strom Thurmond Res), and this did not disappoint. This is one big bad lake that takes time to take it all in. The lunker stripers and hybrids were hitting hard. We had best results in 30-40ft of water, using 10-inch live bait about 20ft off the back of the boat with a medium sized planer board, and trolling at 1MPH. Prepare for weather as it was down in the low 40's this weekend. We'll be back.

Striper on Thurmond

on October 18th

Striper are schooling on the lower end of the lake - in the mouth of Keg Creek, the Little River and at the mouth of the Savannah River. The best schooling activity is coming around 4 p.m., and larger fish will take Sammys and Zara Spooks, while for smaller fish popping corks and ice flies will do well. Bigger teenage sized fish can be caught below the Russell Dam on planer board/ live herring rigs.

Bass on Thurmond

on September 26th

Now that fall comes rolling in bass are starting to move from deeper water toward the shallower arms of the lake. They will be following the shad and other baitfish that seem to migrate to the arms and sloughs. Use square bill crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Also fish mid-running crankbaits on the mouths of the sloughs and arms.
