Where there was once warm water and acid mining runoff there are now lots of nice brown and brook trout. Isn’t habitat restoration and Trout Unlimited (the local chapter was a large factor) awesome? In order to keep the fishery improving the state of Pennsylvania has enacted several special regulations which include delayed harvest, flies only, and others. These regulations only impact parts of the river, though so in some areas what is legal is not in others. Kettle Creek is an excellent place to take kids fishing; there are tons of fish, though most of them are not the biggest, the water is easy to read, the river is really easy to wade, and if a pocket looks "fishy" it probably is. The hatches here are the same as the other rivers/creeks/runs around here so you won’t have anything new to learn when you fish here. Kettle Creek is also a good place to take a disabled person because Kettle Creek has more handicap accessible fishing spots than most of the creeks in PA. In fact the only downside to Kettle Creek is the summer time when water temps warm too much. The season is open though so if you want to go trout fishing knowing that just about every fish you catch will die, go right ahead. If you don’t want to kill fish but you will want to fish in the summer months try Slate or Cedar Run. Good luck fishing!
