Lake Dunlap near McQueeney, Texas
If you like catching lots of sunfish that can grow 12+ inches, largemouth bass that are both plentiful and big, a few smallmouth bass, fair crappies, and lots of nice catfish than I assume you will like fishing Lake Dunlap. If you are interested in fishing here I recommend you fish here in the cooler months because all of the fish species can be found in the shallows either spawning or feeding. The rest of the year (aka summer) you can find the crappies near brush piles, rocks, weeds, baitfish schools, and old channels found in deep water. The best crappie baits year round include tube jigs, live bait, tiny jigging spoons, tiny spinners, and tiny Zip lures. The largemouth bass can be caught anywhere that bait is present but some key spots to key in on are brush piles, boat docks, main lake points, old channels, baitfish schools, weeds (either the edges or the slop), or rip-rap. The best bass baits year round are spinners, topwaters, jigs, live bait, jerk baits, crankbaits, swim baits, and soft plastics. For catfish you should try fishing near old channels, weed edges, main lake points, flats that are located near the main channel or inlets, brush piles, and rip-rap. Stinkbait, worms, live fish, dead fish, and shrimp will work well for catfish all year. As a side note after dark is the best time for catfish and if you are fishing during the day I recommend you try drift fishing; after dark try still fishing. Fallen trees, brush piles, weed edges, drop offs, and boat docks are the best places for sunfish. The best sunfish bait by a unanimous vote is live bait. Good luck fishing!
