Lake Oroville near Oroville, California
What’s better than 15,000 acres of water that are chock full of fish? Well in my option, NOTHING. But don’t just listen to me look at the lake records, King Salmon - 19 lbs. 11 oz. Silver (Coho) Salmon (there are thousands stocked every year) - 10.28 lbs. Lake Trout - 11 lbs. Rainbow Trout - 16 lbs. Brown Trout - 15 lbs. Largemouth Bass - 12 lbs. 4 oz. Smallmouth Bass - 6 lbs. 2 oz. Spotted Bass - 7 lbs. Redeye Bass - 3 lbs. 4 oz. White Crappie - 3 lbs. 4 oz. Black Crappie - 2 lbs. 10 oz. Channel Catfish - 17 lbs. 5 oz. Sturgeon - 97 lbs. If you want to fish here as much as I do there are a few things you should know. For starters you can find boat launches all around the lake, if you don’t own a boat than you should consider renting one. If you are interested in fishing for trout or salmon it would be wise to try to fish the smelt schools most of the year. The exception is the spring when your best bet in the inlets/outlets. The largemouth bass are mostly caught in the backs of coves and on points but there are a few big ones caught near the smelt schools every year. For other up to the day fishing tips I recommend you stop at a bait shop in the area and ask where the fish are biting, most of the time they will tell you what they know because they want you to come back and spend more money. Good luck fishing!
