September 21 through September 24, 2020: good surface and subsurface activity with rainbow, brook and chinook throughout the day, with peaks early morning and evening (sunset and sunrise). Shoals located close to shoreline. Look for small streams flowing into the lake--your best action is there. Cast parallel to the shore, work your way out about 1 foot with each successive cast, staying parallel to shore. This will allow you to locate the fish. There were plenty of black micro sedge activity along with olive and orange to tan Caddis. Black midge activity was good. Stick to surface flies, your go-to is a Parachute Adams, and just subsurface like midges. Nymph activity was poor; you'll also get caught up at depths more than 3 feet. Traditional lures that resulted in multiple catches included small surface lures like poppers, small shallow subsurface swim baits, small subsurface tubes, and shallow small spoons, rooster tails, etc. Stick to natural colors. Fish egg bait is a good choice. Cast bait either weightless on small hooks (1/0 is too big) with an indicator, or use bobber about 2 feet above hook with drop weight of about 1/16 ounce--you want the bait to fall slowly to give fish plenty of time to strike. Wash your hands thoroughly with non-scented soap before handling bait and lures--the fish spook easily to human scent.
Little Molas Lake is just as heavily fished as Molas Lake. The difference is the fishing in Little Molas Lake is even worse.
