Channel Cats...

on July 24th

Loon Lake in Jackson County Minnesota has a unique distinction. Channel catfish are being caught ranging from 9.2 to 25.8 inches with an average of 21.0 inches. The lack of harsh winters the last 10 years has likely contributed to a naturally reproducing channel catfish population. If you fish Loon Lake, you will have good odds of catching a few catfish. It is possible that channel catfish could be controlling black bullhead numbers. Good numbers of 9-10 inch bullheads can be caught with some regularity. Loon is a stocked Walleye lake but numbers have come down as of late. If you’re truly interested in channel cats...try Chicken Livers, cut up shad or your basic night-crawlers. Blackened, smoked cat fish on the grill…need I say more.
