Luckiamute River near Independence, Oregon
Pronounced Lucky-mute, Luckiamute River has good fishing for smallmouth bass and trout. It is closed to steelheading though. The best cutthroat trout fishing is in the upper stretch of the river. The fishing is best early in the season and then again late in the fall. The river opens in late May to protect the steelheads. The lower river is where I like to fish when the upper river is too warm for good trout fishing. The nice smallmouth bass will keep anyone entertained for hours. If you get board of the smallies try fishing the finger sloughs for bluegills and largemouth bass. The entire river is artificials only.
