Middle Fork South Fork Provo River near Orem, Utah
Due to its close proximity to the homes of lots and lots of people the Provo River sees plenty of fishing pressure. Yet for some reason the fish are not super wary as you would expect them to be with all these people around. It’s not like its just little fish; fish big enough to know better still suck in fly after fly. In fact you can catch more big fish with less effort here than any other river I have heard of. When you find a section where trout are feeding catch them. Wait about 10 minutes for more trout to move into the feeding station and catch them too. Then repeat over and over again. You might think the trout would eventually stop coming to that spot but with 4,500 fish per mile you have a lot of catching to do before you catch them all. All the usual hatches happen here and it would be a good idea to plan your trip around one. Try fishing with small nymphs and other flies in #18-#22. If you don't like the idea of fishing near lots of people I recommend you come in late winter. Before you go make sure you check for any special regulations for the part of the river you are fishing. Good luck fishing!
