Handicap Accessible, Affordable, clean

on September 16th

I did not actually put a hook in the water - I was scouting nearby lakes for handicap access and the quality of those accommodations, especially with the waters being extremely low in all the reservoirs. Fairly short, paved path from the parking lot to the pier. A sign announces 'for the handicapped'. Blacktopped parking area, which has designated handicap spots. The incline is very slight towards the water. Some irregular boards and a one inch seam offset, make the pier bumpy, but easily traversed by most assistive devices. Railings are near waist height and sturdy. Pier goes out in the water to a depth I estimate at over 3 feet and maybe even 10 feet - you'd need a contour map or a willing buddy, to check that. It's beyond the shoreline water plants and lily pads. It's a 'T' shape, *without* benches. Water was clear near shore then darkens fast. Hard to spot minnows even near the kayak (separate) launch! NO noticable green scum/toxic algae. No litter. Electric motors only. Boat house closed on weekdays Sep 1 through spring. Fishing boats with or without a motor are still available 7a-7p Sat/Sun. Shore fishing is possible in this general area, NOT the breakwall of the bridge for Rt 43, nor that bridge itself.

Fishing Tips for Mogadore Reservoir

on January 2nd

Mogadore Reservoir was created to provide a source of untreated water for the industries of Akron and to aid in flood control but one of the side effects was a very nice fishery including excellent panfish that average 7-10 inches, amazing bullheads that are super abundant and average 11 inches, a few muskies up to 48 inches, a few bass, and lots of catfish. Considering this is a bigger lake there are a lot of different spots that hold a lot of fish but a few of the better ones include the old river channel, around the islands in the main lake, the drop offs and deep hole near the dam, the small cove and shoreline on the east shore of the lake's southern lobe, and the weeds near the boat launch. Jigs, spinners, soft plastics, live bait, crankbaits, and spoons work the best.
