Newport Reservoir near Newport, Oregon
Also known as the Big Creek Reservoirs, Newport Reservoir offers good fishing for stocked rainbow trout, a few larger bass, and bullheads. Rainbow trout prefer the less weedy upper end of the lake where they are stocked from February through early June. Some trout are known to grow quite large here. The largemouth bass population has diminished in the past few years but there are still fair numbers in here. If you are just looking to catch bass try fishing the weeds of the lower lake with topwaters, spinnerbaits, or soft plastics. If you are looking for a trophy bass try fishing the upper end of the lake with large rainbow trout swimbaits. Focus on drop offs and points. Bullheads can be caught near shore on live bait fished near the bottom after dark.
