Got a 40lb large mouth sheephead. I caught it with a 1oz floater loaded with rice with a 14 ft lead using 2lb test line with my trusty zebco 101. I caught it on the right side of the left corner facing inward.

Don't waste your time

on July 16th

I have fished the Ottawa reservoir for 20 years now. Over the last two years fishing has become extremely terrible. Currently the reservoirs water level is down almost 10 feet and there are numerous dead saugeye and even a large Flathead catfish. There is no longer any crawdads left. water is very stagnant and with a film of algae floating on with a terrible smell. This is pretty much a dead reservoir. I've made calls to the water department and the odor with no replies. This reservoir is garbage, don't waste your time fishing here.

For saugeye, try using minnows, night crawlers, and jigs tipped with worms. To catch crappies, use minnows suspended under a bobber. Catfish can be caught using night crawlers, shrimp, or cut shad as bait near brush piles.

Fishing Tips for Ottawa Reservoir

on January 3rd

Ottawa Reservoir offers fair-good saugeye, channel catfish, panfish, and a few bass. Try fishing the shorelines or the deep hole. If it is very windy out (this lake catches breezes well if you know what I mean) and the water gets churned up fish the downwind side. You can bring a boat out onto the lake but you are limited to electric motors only. Your best bet to catch some of the fish is to throw live bait, soft plastics, crankbaits, spinners, spoons, or soft plastics.
