Fishing

on September 30th

Carolina-rigged small plastics have been the best producer for me recently. For the schooling fish, I have been throwing a Strike King Spittin’ King or a Caffeine Shad. One of my customers had one of the new KVD Splash Baits and did well on it on a recent trip.

Bass

on May 15th

Try out your Texas rigs, spinnerbaits, square-bills and lipless baits and have at them. Bass will bite Texas and Carolina rigs, Strike King’s Game Hawgs and finesse worms, double willowleaf spinnerbaits and the Red Eye Shad lipless crankbaits.

Bass

on March 14th

Crankbaits fished on the ends of points are already taking some bass. For fish that have already made their move to spawning areas try rattle baits, shallow crankbaits and flukes just to name a few.

Bass

on February 17th

Fish jerkbaits and shaky-head worms in the outside bends of creeks. Look for bass gathered in the limbs and sticks that catch in those bends.

Bass Fishing

on January 12th

Try points and river ledges with 1-oz. spinnerbaits or slow down with Texas-rigged plastics or grubs hopped along the bottom. The gravel bars that are closer to deeper water are also good, especially if there is current. Try fishing crankbaits, jerkbaits and A-rigs.

A few fish over 10lbs swimming around

on June 1st

There are really big smallmouth bass in Pickwick lake no doubt in fact a few of the local guides swear that there are a few fish over 10lbs swimming around. Sharing the water with the smallmouth bass are nice panfish, decent largemouth bass, good catfish, ok walleyes and saugers, fair white bass, and ok striped bass. If you fish here in the spring try fishing any of the hundreds of shallow coves but the best ones have fallen trees, feeder creeks, and weeds. the rest of the year I would try fishing weed lines, drop offs, deep water near bait schools, fallen trees, and near the dam. Consider crank baits, spinners, jigs, soft plastics, and live/dead bait. Good luck fishing!
