Fishing Tips for Pretty Lake

on August 17th

While it's true northern pike aren't abundant in Pretty Lake there is still a decent naturally reproducing population that averages 20-26 inches. If you are interested in fishing for them try fishing the outlet, the shallow channel on the east side of the lake, and the shallows along the north shore with dead bait in the spring. This is the best time of the year to get lots of big pike. As the water heats up the pike disperse and can be found almost anywhere. Try fishing with swimbaits, spoons, crankbaits, jerkbaits, big jigs tipped with live bait or soft plastics, and spinners. In the winter the pike can be found on the drop offs or in the deep holes and can be caught on dead bait fished under tip ups. If pike really aren’t your thing you could always try the nice, annually stocked, walleye fishery. Try fishing the flats, drop offs, weedlines, and humps with Rapalas, jigs tipped with live bait or soft plastics rattle baits, live bait, and jigging spoons. If you're looking for a meal and action you should try fishing the northeast portion of the lake with live bait, small jigging spoons, and tiny spinners for the really nice panfish (some grow past 11 inches) that are found here. If you are looking for the 3lbs bass that make their home in Pretty Lake your best bet is too fish the weedlines and heavy shoreline cover. When fishing thick cover weedless baits like jigs, spoons, soft plastics, spinners, and topwaters work well. When you are fishing the weedlines try tossing out crankbaits, swimbaits, jerkbaits, and regular jigs. Good luck fishing!
