OMG! I read a report in July of a 14" trout being hooked and had to go to Riggs. A few days prior to my trip (and it was a trip) I checked with the Fish and Game: lots of weeds and high pH. Great! The only activity on the lake were the fingerlings jumping at the bugs at sunset. Those 14" babies are zombies in the deep. I had 2 hits in 3 days of fishing on artificial meal worms. My boy had a couple hits on Power Bait in the late afternoons. I used every lure and bait I had to no avail. The Fish and Game boneheads say the lake is to be stocked on the 16th (Sept) but the Forest Service folks say not to hold your breath with the lake in the condition it's in. The Camp Host says t would be a waste of fish to stock it now as the new fish would most likely become "belly fish for the bears." The weeds cover approx 70% of the lake to the surface. Every cast is sure to snag a weed or 10 foot string of grass.

Riggs Lake is the best mountain lake is all of southwest Arizona. Granted it’s the only one but still the fishing is really good. There are trout stocked all through the summer plus all of the natural trout that spawn in the inlets. You can usually fish here from May through September depending on snow. Try drifting corn, salmon eggs, cheese, garlic cheese, and Power Bait or casting spinners like Mepps or Panther Martins, and small casting spoons for trout or trolling Super Dupers, Kastmasters, Z-Rays, Rapalas or spinners. You can't use live baitfish here. Tight Lines!
