Ross R Barnett Reservoir Fishing Report near Ridgeland, Mississippi

The reservoir is at summer pool providing a lot of cover for spawning crappie. Find some structure and fish in 1-3 feet of water. Good places include above Hwy 43 and behind old number 7 on the Rankin County side of the main lake.
Alot of water is moving under the Hwy 43 bridge. This provides great crappie fishing on the south side of the bridge. Anglers are trolling minnows or jigs on the river channel edges. Try for bass on the rip rap in the lower main lake and the Bay.
The best crappie fishing occurs after heavy rains that produce current on the river. That pushes fish up into the giant eddy below and east of the bridge across the Pearl River at Mississippi Highway 43. Fishing is good until the current subsides. Fish for bass in the dead pad fields until the stems are gone with jigs n worms.
