Seneca Creek near Petersburg, West Virginia
Don't you just love it when you try fishing a new trout stream for the first time and you find out it is easy to read and easier to fish just like you have been fishing it your whole life? Well Seneca Creek is the opposite. To put it simply it will take some learning to fish here and even with that you will still be frustrated a few times. When it is first formed in the foothills Seneca Creek seems normal enough but once it hits White's Run you can see why the creek is one of America’s top 100. By see why the creek is one of America’s top 100 I mean 17 inch brook trout and rainbow trout big enough to give you nightmares or VERY present memories depending on how the fight turned out. As for fishing spots the golden rule seems to be the harder it is to get there the better the fishing is. The best times to fish Seneca are May and June and again in September and October. If you get lucky and all the stars are lined up you can catch tons of big 15+ inch rainbows and 12+ inch brook trout on anything you throw out for. Good luck fishing!
