Sheep Creek near Cordova, Alaska
Despite it boasting a really good run of salmon every year Sheep Creek is still a well kept secret in comparison to nearby Montana and Willow Creeks.
If you like King Salmon you’ll want to check out Sheep Creek sometime; the runs of them are absolutely outstanding. Favorite methods for catching one include using flies, corkies and yarn, and by casting spinners, spoons, or plugs.
During the first half of August the Silver Salmon offer just as good of action as the Kings do during the peak of their run, expescally at the mouth of the creek. Try using spinners and spoons, flies, and fishing eggs.
During even number years Pink Salmon provide amazing fishing just ahead of the silvers. Try casting spinners and spoons such as pixies, blue fox, or vibrax.
Also arriving just ahead of the silvers are the Chum Salmon which are usually good to very good. Small flies and eggs will work the best but some fish are caught on spinners and spoons.
If you prefer a hard fighting rainbow trout you can find decent numbers of them in the creek with the best time to fish being fall. The usual trout techniques will work.
You can also find good numbers of grayling in the creek while the salmon are around but the best time to fish for them is late September.
Overall, for how unpressured this creek is and how good the fishing is I highly recommend checking it out sometime.
