Vernon Reservoir near Dugway, Utah
Vernon Reservoir offers some of the best early trout fishing in the state thanks to an early ice-out date and heavy stocking. The fishing takes a major dive in summer through when the water is diverted for irrigation and the weather gets warm. For most of the year, I would avoid this reservoir but for that time every spring this is a lake you should check out. Unfortunetly, this is not a secret lake, you are going to have to set yourself apart from the heavy crowds when fishing here. Personally, I recommend bringing a small boat (you can use boats here, they just can't have a gas motor on them) and using anything but bait. Sure, bait works well, most of the time. But when the trout are constantly pounded with anglers wielding bait it stops working so well. Fly fishing or casting lures will set you apart fromt the crowd which, at the end of the day, means more fish in the boat.
