Welland River

on February 9th

Lyons Creek feeds into the Welland and you'll find the same opportunities an fishing for the most part. The waters do move quicker on the river and further north they really pick up so stick to the south/east end of the river. The salmon ran through here just like Lyon in high numbers a few years ago and they seem to be following an every other year pattern, last year the numbers were down and this year are expected to be up again. Any angler in B.C will tell you the salmon numbers are good every other year. Bring some corn baits here for the salmon and some heavy lines. Cast the rapids and run the bait over the currents, when hooked onto a salmon keep the line tight and rod in the air, as you reel keep pulling on the rod, always have tension. The salmon are like muskie and will pop off any chance they get. The trout are hitting on crank baits, jitterbugs but most of all larvae baits and fly baits. Cast the rapids and shorelines for the trout and use the same reel technique.
