About the Campground

This 2-bedroom (7 rooms total) ranch style house is located in east Cochise Stronghold in the Dragoon Mountains, which the famed Chiricahua Apache chief called home. The house lies in a dramatically beautiful canyon that provides excellent hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding opportunities. From the front porch, guests are treated to morning sunlight dancing on granite spires. The cabin is suitable for groups of up to 10 people. Pets are allowed. No more than 6-8 horses/mules are permitted in the corrals. You must supply the feed for the horses and it must be certified weed-free. Please clean up after all your animals. Off road vehicle users should be aware that the east Cochise Stronghold has only one road for vehicles. Due to heavy traffic by passenger cars, trucks, RVs, and trailers, it is not recommended for off-road vehicle use. The house has electricity and running water. Inside the house there are electric lights, an electric stove top and a wall oven, a microwave, and a refrigerator. There are two full baths. There is a separate dining room with a table and seating for six. A small dinette set with seating for four is located in the kitchen. The living room contains two double futons and a fireplace. The house is furnished with a queen-size bed in the master bedroom and a bunk bed and a single bed in the second bedroom. Kitchen supplies include pots, pans, utensils, dishes, coffeepot, and can opener. Outside is a propane grill and outdoor furniture. A barn and corrals are located to the east of the main house. There is a covered storage area for hay and water is available in the corrals. The Half Moon Ranch is located approximately 9 miles west of Sunsites, Arizona. Attractions in the area include: Chiricahua National Monument, Fort Bowie National Historic Site, the Willcox Playa, and the Amerind Foundation. Supplies you need to bring: Sheets, blankets (or sleeping bags) for one queen bed, three double futons and two single beds; pillows; flashlights; towels; garbage bags; warm clothes; dish-washing liquid; dish towels. Bring an ax for splitting firewood and matches and newspaper for the fireplace. Cell phone coverage in this area can be fair. Pack out all food and trash when checking out of cabin. A cabin manual is located inside of the cabin to answer cabin specific questions during your stay as well as provide you with area recreational information. Access to the Half Moon Ranch is through a locked gate. The gate has a combination lock, and house key is located in a lock box on the kitchen door. The combinations for the gate and the lock box are given out once a reservation is made. A helispot is located at the far west end of the pasture. Emergency crews may periodically use this site for emergency rescue operations. Site access is moderate.

Alerts and Important Information There are no housekeeping services. Guests are required to clean up after themselves and leave the cabin clean for the next renter. This includes washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down countertops, cleaning bathrooms and showers, etc. Cleaning supplies are provided. Reservation dates subject to weather conditions. *This cabin does not honor Golden Passport Discounts* *1 day mininum reservation window* The Half Moon Ranch can be reserved 180 daysin advance. There are beds for 10 people in the cabin. No linens or bedding provided. Roads leading into this cabin are passable by passenger car. However, portions of the dirt road may become slippery in inclement weather. Pets are permitted in the cabin, but renters must clean-up after their pets. Fireworks are always prohibited on all national forest lands. All smoking must be done within enclosed vehicles or outside where the area is cleared of all flammable material. The house is located in a desert environment, please be aware that scorpions, snakes and other insects may be present at any time. Off-highway vehicles are also only allowed on designated roads and trails.
